Firstly, being a dad is amazing and is truly the meaning of life. Secondly, it’s hard .. obviously the good massively outweighs the bad .. but you have to make sure your the type or person who can weather the storm.

When your pregnant and friends and family try and ‘warn’ you how hard it’s going to be I don’t think you are ever told the truth. Some people try to make the journey sound so easy, probably because they don’t want to dampen your spirits and excitement, but behind their back secretly thinking ‘oh just you wait’. Others make it sound like hell on earth, like you have made the biggest mistake of your life, like you will never sleep again and that you will want to tare off your ears due to all the crying. There’s never a middle ground with the absolute truth.

I’m not going to sit here and lie and say it’s all cuddles and kisses. It has its ups and downs that will test you as well as feel like your the luckiest dad on the planet.

I am also going to have to confess that I am writing this after 5 hours sleep because my ‘nearly’ 2 year old decided she wanted to wake up at a really inconvenient time. With that being the case I still look at her with so much love and I wouldn’t change her for the world.

The truth is .. enjoy every second you get to spend together and if they are testing you, you have to learn to work with it, it will pass and all will be forgotten after a baby cuddle.
