It’s been a year! Almost. The first year in our first home (ignoring all the money we spent paying other people’s mortgages) and it’s been a long but amazing one. I will have to come clean straight away and say we still have boxes we haven’t unpacked. Obviously we don’t need the things in the boxes so I will have to make a trip to the tip at some point.
We have already started to make our mark, slowly, whilst trying to keep an eye on a 1 year old causing absolute havoc. The biggest change we have had to deal with is the garden. At 1/4 acre it’s a bit of a chore to keep tidy. Obviously this is my job as I would not trust Shannan with a 160cc petrol mower!
I love spending time in the garden and this summer will be no different. I have plenty of plans so keep your eyes open for house updates in this blog! So when the mower comes out and I’ve cracked a beer open, the next 3-4 hours is spent just cutting the grass. This doesn’t account for the time I have to spend to trim the edges, tidy the plants, clean the decking, bla bla bla ..
Over winter the outside of the house has not been touched .. and for obvious reasons. There’s not much I can do whilst it’s so wet but the pain of sitting looking at it eager to get out and sort it out is not good. The weekend just gone I managed to get out and give the grass it’s first cut of the year .. so satisfying.
The winter months have taken their toll .. some of the grass has taken on too much water and will need a lot of tlc to get that nice green colour over the summer .. but I’m on it!
It is hard work but look at that face, she loves being out in the garden! And in the future we will be making sure she has everything she needs. Now she is a bit older me and Shannan can now sit with a drink of our choice whilst Penelope runs riot in the garden. Perfect parenting!
My next jobs are a compost heap, allotment area and more flower beds .. I’ll be busy.
Until the next one,
Thanks.
